Intermediate Apprenticeship in Workbased Horticulture - Sportsturf - Greenkeeper

About the course

This qualification covers the principals of greenkeeping; focussing on maintenance, repair and preparation of golf courses whilst taking into account the seasonal variations of the industry. It is suitable for new entrants to the industry or those wishing to undertake a formal qualification.

Venue

Work Based blended delivery programme consisting predominantly of on-site training and assessment within the workplace, supported by off-site technical training at local training and assessment venues as required. Course teaching, learning and assessment is enhanced through the effective use of e portfolio and distance learning resources to ensure flexible delivery is responsive to learner, employer and situational needs.

Programme Length

Work-based delivery over a minimum * of 20 months, dependent on initial assessment.

*Minimum durations apply for 16 – 18 year olds. 19 + learners can apply for accredited prior learning which may reduce the duration. Funding rules dictate a minimum of 12 months duration.

Entry requirements & additional information

Entry requirements

Entry onto the apprenticeship is subject to a thorough initial assessment to clarify course appropriateness. Entrants must have the ability to achieve Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics and be able to cope with the Level 2 vocational qualification. Apprentices must have a contract of employment working for a minimum for 30 hours/week.

Progression

Apprentices successfully completing the Intermediate Apprenticeship have opportunities to progress within the industry by continuing onto the Advanced Apprenticeship in Horticulture or other Further Education courses.

Careers

Typical jobs apprentices will be able to progress onto on completion of the Intermediate Apprenticeship will depend on the qualifications and experience gained, but could include: assistant greenkeeper.
