Introduction:

Maintaining tools is an essential part of being a gardener – not only will they do a better job for you but they will also last longer and be safer to use. This course focuses on common horticultural hand tools.

What will the course involve?

Demonstration and practice of tool maintenance techniques including:

• Cleaning tools – keeping free from pests and diseases

• Sharpening, oiling and servicing

• Sap removal

• Daily tasks and seasonal tasks

• Rust prevention

How long will I be learning?

Although this course only lasts for one day, this is only the start and you’ll carry on learning as you put your new skills into practice.

What equipment will I need?

All equipment is provided, but you will need to wear sensible footwear and outdoor clothing. You may wish to bring along a selection of your own tools to maintain.

How will I know if I am making progress?

Demonstration of new skills.
