Arboriculture Routes to Employment

About the course

The Arboriculture Routes to Employment is designed to meet the needs of those who already hold a Level 2 arboriculture qualification. A series of certificates to practice (‘tickets’) are included alongside opportunities to practice arboriculture skills to achieve and maintain the standards expected in employment.

Course modules

Year 1

Level 3 Certificate in Forestry and Arboriculture

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Stump Grinders

City and Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Manually Fed Wood Chipper

City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw Using Freefall Techniques

City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging

Work Experience / Enrichment

Entry requirements

Level 2 Arboriculture.

Learning and assessment

Students gain practical skills and experience in Croxteth Park. Each of the course components includes a separate practical assessment.

Progression

Employment, Access to HE or Apprenticeships.

Careers

Employment (including apprenticeships) in arboriculture, forestry and grounds maintenance.

Special requirements

Costs that are mandatory for the course:

Students require sensible outdoor clothing (including waterproofs). PPE is available but many students prefer to use their own, advice is available from tutors. Approx £150

The Arboriculture Routes to Employment programme is free for students aged 16 – 18 and Liverpool City Region residents aged 19 or over*.

Costs that are optional for the course:

PPE – chainsaw boots, clothing, helmets and ear defenders. (Approx £100-£250)

Work experience

Students gain valuable work experience in the woodlands at Croxteth Park or may participate in an external work placement.
