If you are looking to start or further your career within the animal care industry this is the perfect qualification for you.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be aged 19 or over, and hold a level 2 qualification in an animal related subject, such as:

- City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Dog Walking

- Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care

- Level 2 Technical Certificate in Animal Care

- Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Animal Care

- Level 2 Diploma in Equine Care

- Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture

- Level 2 Certificate of Technical Competence in Animal Health, Husbandry and Handling

What does the course involve?

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a pet sitter. Pet sitting can involve looking after a wide range of animals, e.g., small mammals (cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.) exotics (snakes, lizards, bearded dragons etc.), or larger mammals (pigs, sheep, goats etc.)

How long is the course?

3 Weeks (1 day per week)

What will the course involve?

Mandatory content covers:

- Roles and responsibilities of a professional pet sitter

- Current legislation and codes of practice

- Potential problems and emergencies.

What equipment will I need?

Notebook and pen, sensible clothing and footwear

How will I know if I am making progress?

Through feedback and assessment.

How will I be assessed?

A practical assessment with oral questioning

Cost

This course would usually cost £250. However, thanks to funding from Liverpool City Region, the course is free to all residents of Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Knowsley, Halton and St Helens
